He was born in Konya in 1956. He finished primary, middle and high school in this city. The period between the years 1973-1978 became his undergraduate educational years in Faculty of Science, department of Biology at Hacettepe University in Ankara. He received a Master’s degree in 1981 and a Ph.D degree in 1984. He became assistant professor in 1987, associate professor in 1990, and full professor in 1998 in the department of Biology in the same university. In this department, he conducted research in the fields of cytology, histology and embryology between 1978 and 2011, gave undergraduate and graduate courses, and trained master's and doctoral students. He worked as a manager in various units of the university both inside and outside the department. He worked in the department of Biology in the Faculty of Science and the department of Human Morphology and Physiology in the Faculty of Medicine at Ahmet Yesevi University in Turkestan, Kazakhstan between the years 2007-2011. He coordinated many national and international projects as chief scientific investigator and got retired in 2011. He lectured Ph.D students of the department of biology and genomics in L. N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University in Astana in 2011. Prof. Dr. M. Turan Akay, who has many national and international publications and books related to her profession, currently works as a faculty member at TRNC Near East University, Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Basic Medical Sciences. He speaks English and Kazakh languages.
