Faculty of Dentistry Finished the Basketball Tournament in Second Place

Organized by the Near East University Health, Culture and Sports Directorate, the Interfaculty Basketball Tournament came to an end with the final matches played at the RA25 Sports Hall. Closely followed across the campus, the tournament saw the Faculty of Dentistry deliver an impressive performance and finish the competition in second place after reaching the final.

The Faculty of Dentistry basketball team made a strong start to the tournament in its opening game against the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Displaying an effective and well-balanced performance on the court, our team secured a convincing victory and opened the tournament in an ambitious fashion. With not only our students but also a faculty member and doctoral students included in the squad, the team attracted attention through its harmony and determination throughout the game.

In the semi-final, our team faced the Faculty of Medicine and advanced to the final after achieving a clear victory with a highly successful performance. While our players earned appreciation for maintaining sportsmanship throughout the match, the support from students and academic staff in the stands also provided an important source of motivation for the team.

In the championship game, the Faculty of Dentistry faced the Faculty of Sports Sciences and fought with great determination until the very end. The thrilling final ended with a 40–36 victory for the Faculty of Sports Sciences, while our team completed the tournament in second place. The performance displayed throughout the final once again reflected our team’s determination and strength in acting together.

The third-place match of the tournament was played between the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Law. The Faculty of Medicine won the game 33–19, finishing the tournament in third place. The matches played on the final day were followed with great interest by students and academic staff, adding excitement and energy to campus life.

The Faculty of Dentistry basketball team consisted of İbrahim Uygur, Berk Özoğlu, Çağan Kara, Bayram Yağız Abacı, Oktay Berkay Aksoy, Yazen Marwa Hindi, Berkay Yazıcı, İbrahim Berk Çetin, Rüstem Kayra Durgut, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cenk Serhan Özverel, Dr. Mert Nihat Ecevit, and Dr. Ege Günal. We extend our sincere thanks to all our players who successfully represented our faculty on the court, especially our team captain Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cenk Serhan Özverel.

At the end of the tournament, trophies and medals were presented to the top-ranked teams. In this meaningful organization, the Faculty of Dentistry stood out not only for its athletic achievement, but also for its spirit of unity, solidarity, and belonging reflected on the court. The fact that our students, faculty members, and postgraduate students came together under the same team once again demonstrated that, alongside academic life, social and sporting participation is also strongly encouraged within our faculty.
