Ayşegül (Karakuş) Şahin was born in 1975 in Ordu. She graduated from Ordu High School in 1992 and from Hacettepe University Faculty of Dentistry in 1997. She then began her doctoral studies in the Department of Periodontology at Hacettepe University, defending her doctoral thesis titled "Immunohistochemical Examination of Gingival Angiogenesis in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Adult Periodontitis" in 2002 and obtaining the title of Doctor of Science.

In 2014, she was awarded the title of "Periodontology Specialist" by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Turkey. Dr. Ayşegül (Karakuş) Şahin has articles in nationally indexed journals, and her professional interests include advanced periodontal surgery and mucogingival surgery.
